Fun in New York’s Hudson Valley

By Stella Prince, AK Adventures and Global Village Editor

America is a big place—it’s full of many touristy hot spots, but one area in particular is a personal favorite, and that is New York’s Hudson Valley. Located just two hours from New York City, one hour from Albany, and one and a half hours from New Jersey, it is in the perfect location. You will never get bored, too, for tons of family-oriented activities are available year-round!

My favorite thing to do in the spring is take long nature walks, where the landscape is beautiful and you are blown away by the fabulous flora and fauna. Poet’s Walk, located in Rhinebeck, NY, has phenomenal views of the Hudson River, and the trail is easy to walk on, as the paths are well attended to. And to top it all, it is free! So all you need is most likely your water bottle, sneakers, and perhaps a sun hat to enjoy Poet’s Walk.

In summertime, Zoom Flume Waterpark is always fun. Even I, who does not like anything scary, had a lot of fun riding down waterslides and swimming in the wave pool. It is a good activity for the whole family, and I even enjoyed the food. Prices are not too high, which is good, and it does not get insanely crowded on the weekdays. Just make sure to stay away on a Saturday or Sunday!

Autumn in the Hudson Valley—clear your schedules, folks; you will never have a problem finding stuff to do! My favorite activity is going apple-picking at Westwind Orchard, which is located in Accord, NY. They have a variety of different organic apples available, such as McIntosh, Red Delicious, and Cortland. They even have a cidery, so make sure to try Westwind Orchard’s fresh apple cider, and you won’t be disappointed.

In wintertime, I love going to Wyndham Mountain to go snow tubing. The prices are fair, and it is so much fun! I would definitely recommend getting a spin when you go down the hill because it makes everything way more awesome. Anyway, Wyndham Mountain has great deals for the whole family, and I had a blast visiting this past couple winters.

So, overall, the Hudson Valley is a great place to come for your next vacation. And when you come, no matter what season, do one of the activities above, and you WON’T be disappointed, I promise!
