When I was in Mumbai in India, it was getting pretty boring because I had not been able to visit my favorite store Barnes and Noble, in Natomas so I had not been able to read books or use books for research. That all changed when I visited a bookstore called Kitab Khana located in the heart of Mumbai near a place called Flora Fountains. This place was recommended by Ms. Fiona Fernandez (Editor, Mid-Day Newspaper) during my visit to meet her at her work place.
Now you’re probably wondering why I connected to this bookstore and felt it was so different than others I had visited in India and also why it gave me a feeling of being in the Natomas Barnes and Noble. Kitab Khana has a spiraling staircase to a second floor – just like in the movies of Harry Potter, except it is not magical.
And the collection in this store is out of this world. The store has stack of books from not just the Contemporaries to the Classics in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu but also my favorite 1900s Goosebumps to 2016 books 🙂
The bookstore has orange and blue shelves and cute bean bags and small seats in the children’s area, which looked so inviting that my younger brother became lost into his own world while reading a variety of books.
Unfortunately, during the past few years, bookstores have been closing down. But this one has remained open and I hope with more readers’ awareness we can make sure this store does not close!
