Word Booster: Let the Sun Shine In

By Sophie Nadel, Writer’s Tips Editor

Summer is a wonderful season. The days are long and warm, giving us lots of time to play games, sit on the beach, or eat ice cream. Even though you’re having a great time in the sun, don’t forget to write! Each day is a story waiting to happen, so make sure you write it down! Use these words to stay in the summer writing spirit:

Giddy: (adj) lightheartedly silly
Gabi became giddy with anticipation whenever she thought of the fun that summer would bring.

Sprightly: (adj) full of life and energy
Children are always the most sprightly when they can play outside instead of sitting indoors all day.

Sunburst: (noun) a flash of sunlight, especially through a break in clouds
After a long storm, Sean was pleased to see a sunburst as the clouds finally parted.

Scorch: (verb) to produce intense heat
Because the sun was scorching, there must have been 20 children waiting to buy ice cream at the truck.

Boardwalk: (noun) a walk constructed along a beach
After dinner, Diana took a stroll along the boardwalk and appreciated the cool ocean breeze.

Recreation: (noun) something done for fun and relaxation
With no responsibilities, Harry could spend more time writing for recreation.
