Amazing Kids! Magazine

February 2016: Issue #96 – Family Matters!

Hi Amazing Kids!

February is the second month of the New Year. Many people use the New Year to assess what is important to them. This issue is dedicated to stories about family and how family events and relationships have molded the subject’s direction in life. Sometimes things that seem disastrous at the beginning can create an impact to make you stronger and more focused in the future.  This issue covers all aspects of family life – the good and the bad. What it captures, however, is how important family can be to all our lives.

In this issue you’ll find a great collection of stories that talk about family. I am very excited to have you read the Spotlight interview with Jack Hanna, a family favorite with his animals. He tells us about his voyage becoming a Journalist, Zoologist, Scientist, Philanthropist, and Television Personality. His love of animals guided his life choices, allowing him to affect numerous people. In Fiction you’ll see some impact of family life in such stories as Why We Should be Thankful and A Glimmer of Hope. Poetry has some moving pieces including Home and Lake Julian. If you enjoy a story that motivates you to be better, you should read Proving them Wrong in the Nonfiction Stories Column. There are two books worth reading which are summarized in the Book Review column, Knox Chase on the Case of the Valentine’s Day Mystery by Adam Lipsius and The Snow Car by Arthur Brood. You’ll be pulled into the families that make these books compelling. The Art Column rounds out the issue with some nice pictures.

We hope the themes of upcoming issues will motivate you to write some amazing stories. They include: Lucky You and Small Wonders. Sharpen those pencils and send your stories to me at editor@amazing-kids.org after reading the submission requirements in our Write for Us area under the “Get Involved” tab.

Coming this fall several of our Column Editors will be moving on to college. If you’re interested in managing a column, we’d love to hear from you. You can get your feet wet working with a Column Editor and then transition into their role. Please let me know. We have a great team and I’m sure you’ll enjoy being a part of Amazing Kids! Magazine.

As the author Henry David Thoreau said, “Not that the story need be long, but it will take a long while to make it short.” This quote reminds us that editing our work is just as important as writing the first draft. Excellent editing makes your piece easier to read. It also makes sure you put emphasis on the right events and characters to let your plot flow. So look at your pieces over and over again to make them better.

Write On!
