November Issue 2016: Issue #104 – Reach for the Stars!

Hi Amazing Kids!

As the wind whistles through the trees in November, nudging the leaves to take flight, we are reminded of things that change, making way for new experiences. November’s theme is “Reach for the Stars” because as the end of the year approaches, many of us are motivated to sprint to the finish line to achieve our goals. In this issue you’ll be able to read some exceptional pieces that will inspire you to improve your writing. Senses in the Summer in the Poetry column will make you actually feel summer through the lavish descriptions. Also in the Poetry column you’ll find When I which will motivate you to become the best you can be. In Fiction stories you must read The Illuminated Skies to experience a thunderstorm through another writer’s words and Snowy Spring Blossoms in the Nonfiction Stories column shows you that a story does not have to be made up to be interesting. This author made me want to experience this walk to let time stand still and experience nature. It is this change in the reader’s perspective and feelings that shows a great writer. Even when a story describes how someone is trying to hold someone back from achieving their dreams, such as in the Fiction Story Opening Up my Eyes, if the writer describes it clearly, you feel yourself rooting for the person in the story to continue reaching for the stars.

We have extended the submission deadline to November 20th for our Money Lesson Story Writing Contest. The winners will still be announced in the February 1st issue. Take a day to write a story about someone that learned a lesson about money and you might win some great prizes! Check out the contest details on the contest page.

Another great way to expand your horizons and reach for the stars is to write stories and articles, or create art that you can submit to us to publish. You can receive the honor of being published and also get some feedback on your submissions. Our upcoming themes include: A New Beginning, Acts of Kindness, and Electronics in Action. Send all submissions to me at editor@amazing-kids.org after reading the submission requirements in our Write for Us area under the “Get Involved” tab.

We’re always looking for some excellent writers and editors to join our amazing team. Not only will you get advice on how to better your own writing, but we’ll teach you how to evaluate submissions and assist other writers to “reach for the stars”. We are always taking on Contributing Writers that submit at least one story a month, which may lead to larger positions such as the Amazing Artist Editor, Movie Reviews Editor, or others as editors move on to college. Just email me with your writing experience and interests to editor@amazing-kids.org.

Harriet Tubman, American abolitionist and humanitarian said, ““Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” We have within ourselves the strength, patience and passion to write. Through writing we can move, convince, and inform our readers. This is how we can change the world. Use your talent for writing to make the world a better place. Begin today!

Write On!
