A Dip in Her World

By Adwitia Dey, age 16, India

In a world so cruel,
Where she is used, abused.
In a word so full of restrictions,
Where she is degraded and demeaned.
In this miserable world she is forced to call “home”
That so viscously and heartlessly attempts to tear down her spirit,
Fails
And fails so beautifully,
For there is beauty in her strength,
In the way she weathers the storm,
In the way she never flinches
When rocks are rained down upon her.

The grace,
The undeniable spark,
The fierce spirit
Of the “common girl”
Has been passed down from eons ago
And shall be passed down from eons to come.

For there is beauty in our strength,
In the way we weather the storm,
In the way we never flinch
When rocks are rained down upon us.

We are united
In the blood we shed,
In our wounds,
In our relentless and unbreakable spirit.
