February Seventeen

By Jacob Buys, age 17, Illinois

Bright skies, and a warm sun smiles on my face.
February has come and brought spring with her.
The two dance playfully in the unusually warm air.
Spring was brought? Or forced, rather,
By the strong arm of CO2.
She smiles gladly at me because she knows,
Knows that I will fight against CO2.
I rest on sharp grass between geode rocks and beaver cut trees.
I rest between childhood and adulthood,
At the age of ambiguity.
