Grey Breeze

By Erin Barrekette, age 12, Colorado

As the white breath swirls to the willow-grey sky
One can hold the whisper of a dream
For the world is coated in a fragile blanket

When the shaggy trees huddle
Against the wild air
Tossing and turning in its sleep

One must leave a path of belonging
On the needle-covered ground
Past the nip of berries

And the world must take a breath
The frost alive with magical dust
To hold the moment of a walk on minty ground

To continue on a path of emptiness
All alone
Footprints on a path to nowhere
