Hurricane Harvey

By Samia Alvi, age 9, Texas

Shelters are open,
Fences are broken,
Houses are flooded,
But Harvey won’t stop.

Streets become oceans,
Homes become islands,
Grass becomes fishes,
And people grow wings.

We recover weeks later,
Standing together,
Arm in arm, brick and brick,
Making human chains together.
