If I Ever Lost You

By Allison Stein, Assistant Editor and Poetry Editor

I hate to imagine it’s possible,
But I can’t help this paralyzing fear:
What would I do if I someday lost you,
The person who dries my every tear?

You give me friendship, faith, and joy,
A love intimate and pure enough to feel;
You put your hand on my shoulder,
And fantasy becomes real.

If what I dread so deeply happens,
No promise could ever be as true;
My heart would never be as full.
I’d lose myself if I lost you.

No smile could warm my heart like yours,
No dreams could be as hopeful as ours,
And no other two people could make
The same wish on two different stars.
