It’s You

By Alayna Cooper, age 12, Illinois

It’s you who never ever give up;
It’s you who help me rise to the top;
It’s you who help me wonder and dream;
It’s you who really mean something to me.
It’s you who are my mother.

It’s you who give me good advice;
It’s you who tell me everything twice;
It’s you who taught me to cook and clean;
It’s you who told me to never be mean.
It’s you who are my mother.

It’s you who made me always want to try;
It’s you who asked me to never lie;
It’s you who sang me sunny songs;
It’s you who taught me to right the wrongs.
It’s you who are my mother.

It’s you who give me special gifts;
It’s you who can tell the difference between life and myths;
It’s you who supported me in whatever I did;
It’s you who raised me when I was a kid.
It’s you who made me a mother.

    This poem was written by a child who was raised with love and respect for everyone and everything. Her mom sets a loving example of how we should all try to raise our children.
