Laughing Stream

By Victoria Krylova, Nonfiction Editor

Crackle, snap, crackle, snap
Slowly I stumble down the path
Weeds are tickling my legs and feet
They are bowing and bending in the breeze

Into the mud my toes are inching
Up my calves the water’s creeping
Like a snake I slither and sneak
Dutifully following the creek

Squirt! A frog dives in the water
It escaped right when I almost got her
To the surface my hands wriggle
Droplets spray my face, and I giggle

Silently I walk on by myself
Listening to the stream as it talks to itself
Flowing, gurgling, trickling, singing
Soft laughter rising to the clouds
