Lights Out

By Cameron Levy, grade 3

I stare into the furious eyes of the candle.
I smell smoke drifting to my nose,
Like the ashes of a burnt-down house.
My palms are sweaty…
Are you five? Are you six?
I hear, Are you eight? Are you nine?
“STOP!” I yell.
I hold my sticky palms together;
The candle swooshes like the wind.
It’s time to set the world on fire, I say to myself
As the air inhales into my mouth.
I huff…puff…blow!
The lights go out—it goes…BLACK!
