Mind Palace

By Jane Chang, Age 14, Virginia

Everyone has a place
A place that is safe
Where they can go in times of trouble
Where they go to escape

A place few others know of
Or none at all
Where one may be alone
Doesn’t need to answer any calls

Be it in one’s head
Or a bench in the park
That seat by the window
Or anywhere it’s dark

But if you visit
The world doesn’t slow
Take a break, sing a song
Because soon you must go

Plunge back into the world
Full of confusion and noise
But remember this
That you have a choice

If you feel unsafe
You can go to a place
If you have troubled times
You can escape
