Music Box

By Isabella Taylor, Poetry Editor

This mechanical dance framed within a box
Brimming with fragmented notes
And my body spinning upon a pedestal
Where you so selfishly placed me
For your pleasure
I force my lips into a smile

Unlocked I move to a continuous Bach
Pearls wrapped around my throat
In this dark tomblike cryptal
That you dare open to set me “free”
Yet freedom lies between the measures
This spotlight is my ruse of guile

I force my lips into a smile
This spotlight is my ruse of guile
