My Sister

By Jenna Fink, age 18, California

My sister feels like adventure,
Like going to the city at midnight
For cupcakes.

My sister smells like Channel 6,
Like standing at the Bloomingdale’s makeup counter
Buying lipstick.

My sister sounds like slamming doors,
Saying, “I’m never coming home after college!”
And coming into my room crying.

My sister tastes like buttercream frosting
Made without a recipe,
Driving my mom crazy.

My sister looks like me,
Dotting our similar faces like constellations.
