Ode to My Bed

By Danielle Barber, age 15, New Jersey

O, bed sitting alone in an empty room,
Waiting for someone to keep you company.
A place of security for some,
Not wanting to leave the coziness of you,
Wanting to be there all day.
Never wanting to escape the warmth of your covers,
Having to be exposed to the harsh coldness of my room.
The lavender aroma fills my nose as I inhale my pillow
And the sheets that surround my face.
Your mattress soft as a cloud,
Making me never want to get up.
Having a sound sleep every night,
Never disappointing me.
