Senses in the Summer

By Amrita Pal, age 12, Minnesota

I hear the birds cawing,
Calling to their friends.
I’m starting to hear some tweets.
Both sounds start to blend.

I see the leaves blowing,
Trying to fly free.
They want to have their journey
But away from the tree.

I feel the sun shining
All over my skin.
The warmth is comforting,
Just like my kin.

I can smell the freshness
That’s in the air.
It feels so natural.
I’m happy it’s there.

I taste the cold drink,
Refreshing and sweet.
It’s light in my mouth,
Splashing with victory.
