By Allison Stein, Age 12, Michigan
I wake up every morning
When the birds call to me
Their flying and their swooping
They want me to see
Their nests of scattered twigs
Show their advanced skills
Their daring air tricks
Show their love for thrills
From martins to barn swallows
I watch the birds’ delight
Hummingbirds, robins, sparrows
From the distance, I see a bob white
The birds’ chirps awaken me
From a long rest
My only motivation
To get up from my nest
