The Bridge

By Nicole Fresquez, age 12, Colorado

On the bridge of our lives,
Wobbly yet sturdy,
The howling wind starts to blow,
Shaking our world and quaking on our lives.

Some can choose to hold on,
Grasping the ropes,
The only things containing us
And saving us from the fall.

But some can choose to jump,
Give up on all they have
Because they can no longer hold on.

Terrified of the bridge failing us,
Collapsing, as we lose everything we have.

If only this bridge were stable,
Unaffected by the strong winds
That strive to tear us down.
