The Magic Box

By Kgaogelo, age 12, South Africa

I shall put in my box

The first cry of a newborn baby
The hope that shines the stars
The spellbinding sun that sets on the horizon

I shall put in my box

The song the ocean sings
The calm melodies of the sky and
The hope they trap in a Pandora box

I shall put in my box

A mother’s love and affection
The laugh of a young child and
The purity they hold within

My box is fashioned from royal red to gold
With hearts on the lid and dreams on the corners
Its hinges are the curiosity of nature

I shall dance in my box
With the stars following behind
And the moonlight shining the brightest
And the waters singing as well
