The Moon

By Reina Nowak, age 12, Michigan

Sparkling stars fill the sky,
But when I look up,
It’s not the sparkles that catch my eye.
It’s past Orion, past the dippers alike.
It’s the beacon of hope that fills the night.
An orb that clears the daily toll.
A sphere that shines my favorite light.
A globe that goes from new to full.
A ball that glows in the coal-black world.
May it shine in the darkness.
May it be everyone’s pearl.
Saves the night,
Saves the light,
Saves the soul.
Although it has an eerie pull,
The moon is what makes us whole.
