The Ocean that I See

By Alondra Ramirez, age 11, California

When I stare at the sea
I can’t help but to feel free
I notice
The smell of sea salt and fresh air
It’s really a great smell
It vacuums my lungs
And makes me feel refreshed
I also notice how the sand feels between my toes
With sharp shells and small rocks that glow
As I stand up and walk towards the sea
I hear the sounds of a gentle breeze
Calling for me
I feel the cool water
On my feet and between my toes
Cold as ever
As the day gets late
It shows in the darkened sky
I say good-bye
But not for long
I’ll come back soon
To say hello to my friend
That makes me feel
Calm and free
