I haven’t lived correctly until after I had an Irish Setter.
She was like a mini-human
But better.

She didn’t yell at me,
Didn’t make me feel insecure;
When I cried, she cried with me.
Her clown-like personality made me laugh
Even on my darkest days.
She cuddled with me when I needed it
And when I wanted to.
She was there for me when nobody else was.

I loved and treated her wonderfully because
She was my everything.
And I was hers.

But the sad part is
Dogs don’t last as long as humans.
I could get a new dog,
But it won’t be the same.
There is a hole in my heart,
And it’ll stay there for the rest of my life.
That pain in my chest is always there.

When I first bought her and took her home,
She practically exploded with joy.
She tackled me in pure happiness when I bought her;
I couldn’t get all the dog fur off me for days.

The brownish, reddish ball of energy
Will be forever etched in my memory.
The setter is your best friend;
You can’t just love and be expected
To accept the loss.
They are irreplaceable,
