When I Fly

By Ava Lucarelli, age 10, New York

I wish I could fly
When I fly, I smell cookies from nearby windows
Flowers from yards
I hear squirrels chattering to each other
I smell the salty beach air
As I go by, I see a turtle stuck in a wire
I feel the powerful wind blowing against my face
I see a sunset glowing orange and pink
I see people as tiny as ants below me walking and talking loudly
I see city lights and a mouse trying to find its family
As I see the same house with tasty-smelling cookies
I feel full of life
I slow down and land
