Winter Morning

By Allison Stein, Age 13, Michigan

The sun doesn’t rise
The world is dark
My heart tells me lies
Before I see a spark

A spark of light through the trees
Now they’re only a shadow
Swinging with the breeze
Forget the winter I so well know

Before the winter morning
A prologue to the sun’s glint
The birds don’t bother to sing,
There are no animals, not a footprint!

But I know winter before the morning’s start
All these thoughts are frozen in my heart!
