World of Reflection

By Abhinav Mazumder, age 14, India

As I strolled down the busy street,
A puddle of water fell into my sight;
I stopped myself before the puddle
To glance down to see my reflection in it.
Suddenly my eyes caught sight of a tiny ant
Swimming through this vast lake;
As I saw the trees swaying with pleasure
And the birds flying with freedom,
For a moment I felt all of nature captured in that puddle.
I looked around to see if any other person also saw this,
But everyone was too busy to enjoy the scene of the world of reflection.
As a gust of wind blew over my body,
I felt the currents of water dancing on my feet,
But looking down on the puddle,
I felt as if the whole sky was shaking.
As the wind stopped, the puddle quieted again,
And I felt as if the whole sky returned to silence;
I looked around to see if any other person also felt this silent quake,
But everyone was too busy to feel the quietness of the world of reflection.
