The Lion, The Fox, and The Wolf

By Shreyansh Chakraborty, India, age 6

Once upon a time in a jungle, there lived a fox. The fox was very naughty. He loved to trouble the other animals like the elephant, the rhinoceros, the giraffe, the deer, the monkey, etc. No one in the jungle liked him except his friend, the wolf. The wolf always helped his friend, the fox. Whenever someone tried to beat the fox, the fox shouted,

“Wolf! Wolf! Help me! Help me!” The wolf would come and chase away that animal.

One day, a big bad lion came to the jungle. He wanted to eat someone, but couldn’t find anyone. But after sometime, he found the fox. The lion said,

“Yum! Yum! I am going to eat you!” The fox was very scared and shouted,

“Wolf! Wolf! Help me! Help me!”  The wolf came running but he was scared of the lion too. The lion said,

“Aha! One other that I can eat.”  Then the fox had an idea. He said,

“Lion Sir, I am so tiny and the wolf is so big. How can you fill your stomach with me? I think you should eat the wolf instead.”

“I think you are right,” said the lion and started walking towards the wolf. The wolf was very afraid and ran away. The lion chased after him.

In the meantime, the fox went to all the other animals in the jungle and said, “The lion is a big bad animal. Today, he will eat the wolf but tomorrow, he will come after each of you. Let us all unite and help the wolf.”

All the other animals agreed and went to save the wolf. They caught the lion and beat him. The lion was very afraid and ran away from the jungle.

So, the clever fox saved himself, his friend, the wolf and all the other animals of the jungle.
