Have you ever heard of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series? Most likely you have. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is one of the most popular kids books. This book is about the author, Jeff Kinney, and is written by his brother, Patrick Kinney.  It is one of a series of books about interesting people written and illustrated for kids. Subjects of the “Who Is” or “Who Was” books include Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee, crocodile hunter Steve Irwin, anthropologist Jane Goodall, astronaut Neil Armstrong and Walt Disney, among others.

As a boy who taught himself how to make video games, Jeff Kinney helped a company to make educational games for children. He loved to draw and did a comic strip in college.

After college, he tried to sell his cartoons to syndicates, but they wouldn’t buy his work. Taking four years to get all of the funny parts for his book, he finally found a person to help him make the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. When a man said that they were going to do a children’s book, Jeff was surprised! This entire time he had been planning a 1,300 page book reminding grown-ups of middle school. After being published, Diary of a Wimpy Kid wasn’t big until after a couple of months. When kids read it they told other kids about it until Jeff won the New York Times award.

Sequels have been made, such as Roderick Rules, Dog Days, and Last Straw. Some things Jeff has put in his writing actually happened. For example, he actually did wrap himself to stay warm while skipping swim practice by hiding in the bathroom.

I recommend this book to people who are interested in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
