Q. In what ways has technology positively influenced your life?
Ryan Traynor, Editorial Advisor and Contributing Writer: I love to listen to music while I’m studying and playing my own playlist helps me focus. I also like to connect with friends through emails, texts, and social media posts. Finally, I am fortunate to have the internet to research material online in addition to my library research. It puts important information at my fingertips so I can focus more on my analysis rather than finding data.
Allison Stein, Editor-in-Chief and Poetry Editor: Technology has enabled me to create connections with the world around me. For me, working with this magazine is an ideal example of the communication electronics can inspire. Although our team completes the issues via email and Dropbox, we come together to share our passions and make our dreams come true. Technology has enabled me to enjoy this amazing opportunity that would not have otherwise been possible.
Ashley Lin, Nonfiction Editor and Adult Spotlight Interviewer: In our society of technological and digital advances, it is a continuous race to touch as many lives as possible. An aspect of technology that has always stood out to me is how it connects so many people, regardless of many of the social and economic barriers that we face. Using technology, I am able to keep in touch with friends who moved years ago, acquaintances whom I met at summer camp. It also opens up so many more opportunities to help others virtually—even if being physically there is implausible, there is always a way to meaningfully contribute through technology.
Sehen Gamhewa, Comic Hub Co-Editor: Technology has made everything much, much easier and better for me. I learned guitar from YouTube and now am so good (still haven’t learned anything properly XD) that the school’s music teacher said that he could get me into a professional band. My mom makes amazing food, and she gets most of the recipes from the internet. I write using my laptop, etc.
Stella Prince, AK Adventures and Global Village Editor: I love learning things through the computer– it has a very big database filled with tons of educational videos and programs. Since I’m homeschooled, I can take math and English on it every day. I also like going on Netflix and Amazon to watch movies and TV shows.I love learning things through the computer—it has a very big database filled with tons of educational videos and programs. Sophie Nadel, Writer’s Tips Editor: With technology, I am able to reach out to my friends at any time to chat or to make plans. I believe that this has helped to keep our friend group united: We have fun with one another even when we are not in person.
Sarina Patel, Jr. Assistant Editor and Comic Hub Co-Editor: Technology has streamlined the editing process for me. While features like SpellCheck and Heading on Word Documents may seem basic, these systems rely on complex codes in order to carry out their function on all types of computers. Not only is technology fascinating, it is efficient for me to use; it helps me write without inhibiting my creativity and minimal distractions…although autocorrect can occasionally be annoying!Technology has streamlined the editing process for me. Hridhima Tyagi, Contributing Writer: Technology has influenced my life a lot. If I need to play or talk to someone, I sometimes use my phone. Sometimes, even for studying I use my phone. Watching television for one hour is confirmed every day.
Jordan Brunk, Amazing Kid from History Editor and Contributing Writer: Technology has positively influenced my life because it gives me a way to communicate with others. I can use my phone to contact my friends and loved ones and also use email to send articles and messages to the magazine staff.
