Why is nature important?

Sharon (Editor-in-Chief):  Nature is basically what makes up who we are, as a society. No matter how much you try to industrialize or urbanize, the fact is that nature will always be there. It’s present in the raw materials of everything we own, our mindset, and pop culture. Protecting nature is equally important because, even though nature is an omniscient being, it is still vulnerable. It is a reminder of the fragility of beauty and how we are all connected.

Ryan (Assistant Editor): Nature is important to us because it helps to bring us back to what is important. When I’ve had a busy day and I feel my mind racing, a quick walk in the large park near my home settles me down to see things more clearly. Nature reminds me of how all things are entwined together on this earth and it makes me appreciate the world I live in.

Natalie Brady (Nonfiction Editor): Nature is all around us, all the time. Why shouldn’t it be important to us? Yes, lately we have all of our electronics and transportation, but that doesn’t mean we should forget the simple beauties of fall leaves and spring flowers. For me, nature is one of the only things that can bring true relaxation to my tense muscles. Merely taking a walk, exploring the woods, or gazing out the window at the snow, the fresh blooms, the colorful leaves…there’s nothing better than taking a second to appreciate the world’s truest form.
