Q: What do you consider one of the luckiest moments in your life?

Ryan Traynor, Editor-in-Chief: I feel lucky every day of my life for having a wonderful family and friends. But the day that I was able to appear on a national television show for my volunteer work was especially lucky for me. After the show aired, we received a flood of volunteers to help us finish our work. The volunteers couldn’t have come at a better time. Now that was lucky!

Grace Tang, AK Adventures and Global Village Editor: Recently, in November 2015, I had the cool opportunity to visit the Canadian Arctic and interact with the indigenous people – it was truly one of the luckiest trips I have ever been given the chance to partake in. Alongside 25 other Southern Canadian youths, I went up to Iqaluit, Nunavut and learned about its culture, way of life, challenges and met with its parliament! It was so pleasantly different to see how this town can thrive so simply yet harmoniously together with only one main grocery store, one main bank, one Tim Hortons, one technology shop….. you get the point.

Allison Stein, Assistant Editor and Poetry Editor: Although I had no idea at the time, one of the most treasured moments of my life was meeting a stranger. Little did I know, the two of us would soon depend on each other as friends. Since the small talk that sparked our story, she has taught me to break through the boundaries of my fears and believe in myself. I never imagined a simple smile could turn to such a special blessing.

Catherine Cheng, AKOM Editor: It was sometime in the summer, it was dark outside, and my friends and I were all staring up at the sky, watching the stars glitter. There wasn’t really anything going on, we were simply together and the sky was simply beautiful. I never felt so lucky to be alive.

Brandon Kuske, LOL Editor: One of my most lucky moments was at a charity fundraiser drawing at Applebee’s. The tickets cost $1 a piece, and some people were putting in hundreds. When they came to our table, I realized I had an extra dollar and decided to get a ticket. I didn’t even think about winning, with almost 3,000 tickets in the basket. Surprisingly, my name was pulled at such a low probability!

Salma Danuningrat, Writing Tips Editor: One of the luckiest moments of my life would probably the time I met my kindergarten best friend again at a birthday party. She had moved away right before first grade and moved back to my hometown the same year I moved schools. We both had no idea the other would be there and I felt very lucky to be able to see her one last time before I moved cities.

Sehen Gamhewa, Comic Hub Co-Editor: Lucky…hm….I don’t do ‘Lucky..’ Well, maybe, it was the day, uh, um, oh yeah! It’s the day I got the highest marks in an International exam conducted by Australia, and in it, I topped the whole gulf, or the whole of the Middle East!! Well that’s pretty lucky if you ask me. But, it’s like Thomas Jefferson said, “I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” I guess…

Monica Gu, Fiction Editor: To me, my luckiest moments aren’t the ones where something uncannily works out in my favor, but moments where all the gratitude in the world doesn’t seem enough for how blessed I feel. A few months ago, when I got into college, I felt lucky — not because I’d been accepted, but because I was lucky to have all the friends and family who supported me, the means to work hard, the ability to consider higher education at all, and all the opportunities to come.

Jordan Brunk, Amazing Kid from History Editor: I consider one of the luckiest moments of my life to be when my parents let my siblings and I choose two cats from the litter at my grandparents’ house. My grandparents on my mom’s side live in the country and they always have a line of cats that live and reproduce on their property. When my brother and two sisters and I visited our grandparent, we called and asked Mom and Dad if we could have a kitten. They said that we could have two female kittens. I consider this lucky because even though we picked a male and female, we could keep them, and I love my cats so much.

Sarina Patel, Jr. Assistant Editor and Comic Hub Co-Editor: One of the luckiest moments of my life was when I won the School Spelling Bee in January. I consider it lucky because I beat a National finalist to win the school championship this year.
