A Reflection on the Changing Seasons

By Fatima Yousuf, Money Smarts Editor and Contributing Writer

The once fresh green leaves now transform into an array of reds, yellows, and browns, falling to the floor to create a carpet of colors. The once long and heated summer days have cooled down. The fall breeze ushers in, the light shining through the leaves to create kaleidoscopes on the ground.

Life is constant, always moving. As the earth swirls endlessly over its axis, dancing around the sun, we, too, are constantly moving. As we travel through our daily life cycles, we experience the joyous time called life. The temporary nature of our seasons is just what makes them so precious; the short span of our lives is just what compels us to experience the world to the fullest.

As the seasons change, I am reminded of the words of C.S Lewis: “[God] has balanced the love of change in [man] by a love of permanence…by that union of change and permanence which we call Rhythm.” Indeed, with the seasons come a harmonious balance in the soul, the perfect blend of change and consistency. Every season so unique and so beautiful, yet arriving per a designated time. Our two natural loves are epitomized in the gradual, yet consistent change of our environment.

With autumn also comes the year’s nearing end. With a quiet resignation, we look back at our achievements, our failures, our successes, and our depressions, and realize that we are not the same people that we were just a few months ago. We have become older, wiser, and experienced, qualities invaluable towards our own self-growth and maturity. As we leap into fall, let’s move forward together with a sense of gratitude for the world around us; let us welcome the rhythm of change that occurs around us.

Enjoy the seasons. Embrace change. Appreciate life.
