For years now, we’ve heard the saying “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, but there’s never been a specific reason why. There have been rumors breakfast actually helps with focus and alertness, but this is not necessarily true. Most students are tempted to skip breakfast in the mornings because they just aren’t hungry or it takes too long or they don’t have the time. Many studies have shown not eating breakfast has no effect whatsoever on how the student performs in school. However, there are some legitimate reasons to eat breakfast.

While studies show not eating breakfast has no effect on how the students perform in school however, studies also showed students who did not eat breakfast did not perform as well on memory tests… especially short-term memory. If you have a test or a quiz or something you have to memorize, I would highly suggest eating breakfast in the morning – not something such as a pop tart, but something healthy and nutritious. This is not the only reason I suggest eating breakfast, though.

Studies have also portrayed that people who skip breakfast are most likely to be overweight for two reasons. One, people who skip breakfast tend to make poor choices later on in the day. They get so hungry they eat more than what they usually would, and most of the time the food is junk food. The other reason is not eating breakfast slows the metabolism, meaning food is not broken down as easily.

I know we all have those temptations to skip breakfast in the morning. I get up at 5:30 on a school day, and eating at six o’ clock is just too early for me. However, we all have to push through that urge to skip it, because eating breakfast is healthy for you. After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Have fun at school and always remember to eat a breakfast.
